Jimmy Kimmel’s First Car
Alonzo’s current ride included his new BMW X6 SAC (Sports Activity Coupe). It was a bit rainy the day of the CarCast, but it cleared up enough to do a walk around the X6.
Without religious blaspheming, we lose a LOT of the flavor of the language. If I say “don’t eat crayons” to my 1 year old, it’s just not as tangy as saying “Jesus H Tapdancing Christ! Stop eating the goddam crayons”. That’s way more fun. Gets better results with the kid too.
As to the X6, it’s a sign of the times. 20 years from now people will look back to 2008/2009 when the car market dropped off almost 50% and say “what the fuck were they thinking with all the crossovers. Who told them people wanted crossovers. What the hell is a crossover anyway? No wonder nobody bought them. And Jesus H Christ Iris, stop eating the goddam crayons – you’re 19!”
What “the people” really need are station wagons. They need them but don’t actually KNOW they need them, or accept that they need them. What is a minivan but a high roofed station wagon. What is an SUV but a station wagon that doesn’t look like a station wagon. What is a crossover but an SUV that doesn’t look like an SUV – looks more like a station wagon.
When the dust settles, we’ll go right back to the way things have been done for 100 years. Truck people will buy pickups, families will buy station wagons, city people will buy hatchbacks, fat middle aged fucks like me will buy sports cars, but the bulk of the populace will buy 4 door sedans because that’s what works best.
Not bad, I’ll take 2.
Great podcast. I’m more of a motor cycle guy myself, and I know DAG is too. Can’t wait to have DAG on talking about his bikes.
Great car. When in Philly, check out the Simeone Foundation Auto Museum or http://www.simeonemuseum.org
If your a car guy, this will blow you away.
Adam….Your so right about the Aston Green….Makes the car….Love the scoop.
Check out Simeone’s Aston on http://www.simeonemuseum.org Jay loved it.
Great job Adam, I am a car nut and looking forward to these podcasts.
Although the X6’s styling certainly takes some getting used to, it drives like a 650i. This statement is from experience, not hearsay. One (important) thing Alonzo didn’t mention about the X6 is the rear diff that splits tq to aid in cornering. This makes it handle like a coupe, not the 5000lb truck that it is.
I wanted one, bad, but couldn’t stomach the steep price (Around 65-70K for the 6 cylinder)for a car that only seats four and barely has room for my kid’s cello, so I bought an X5 instead. Still cool, but not as sweet as an X6.
The X6 looks DAMN good for a crossover, and it handles like a sports car.
Hmmmm….This car has taken up the vehicle market segment once taken up by the AMC Eagle. Obviously the X6 is much nicer and looks better but it’s the same vehicle segment. Not quite a car, not quite an SUV, not quite a station wagon.
Actually now that I’ve mentioned it. Here’s a pic of the two one on top of the other.
Love this show. I am not a wrencher and my knowledge of cars pretty much is what I think is cool and what I would like to have or drive. I must say I love this show as much as the regular Carolla show if not more. Love the car talk and advice but I really love the stories that go along with all the car talk. It is not stuff and still fun to listen to even if you aren’t a car nut. Keep it up. I love it and will listen every week.
Love the crossover, BMW, has the toughest, fastest looking vehicles in the market and the X6 is an excellent example.
hi jeff if you take2 please give me one only one
