Hotchkis was great: very smooth on camera, knowledgeable but not overbearing. He should run for office.

I don’t think suspension geometry is something you can adequately explain in words. There needs to be a computer graphics animation that explains visually how all the variables interact. It would also be nice to compare and contrast different suspension technologies. Attempting that verbally would put the audience to sleep. As the saying goes, “a picture is worth…”

About tire sizes, some countries measure pants in the same way. For example, in Bolivia it’s crotch-length / waist-size / half the ratio of waist-to-leg. So I wear a 13/38/42 there. Seems weird but you do get a better fit.

All the Pebble Beach pictures are a cruel tease. Quit sandbagging on us. Give us the video! (But I am thankful for what I got.)

What’s it gonna take for the camera man to clue into what the guests are talking about and actually pan around the shops. Hotckhkis was pointing to their shop during the shortened frame segment…..and I want to see the camera pan around and zoom in as needed. ….just watching these guys talk is getting lame. When somebody says “this” and points…….camera que to turn around and let us see it.

@20:05 all three of them are looking at the dodge engine off camera, two off them point and the camera man just sits there? wtf? just pan to the right for a second. Yes, I see the pictures in the gallery but i shouldn’t have to scroll thought the gallery while also watching the video.

justifiable complaints over now………..thanks for the show. Sandy is holding his own out there.

Funny you mention this. We had a bunch of ‘B-Roll’ Pickup shots that when we got back the CF card that we used was corrupt. We lost a bunch of that and more of the details on the shop and general manufacturing that were on the bad card. Not sure why it happens, but card has been removed from play. Don’t worry we will head back to the Hotchkis for the Grand Opening block parts and get more footage, John and his crew were great!

BTW……the tire stuff is awesome, the manufacture date code is new to me…….ill be crawling under the car just out of curiosity.

  4. Tim says:

take a look at this websight ,it helps you visulize the tire sizes
    Miata.net Tire Size Calculator

  5. Tim says:

take a look at the serie’s of 4 numbers sometimes put on the backside of side of the tire, example if it says 4408 this means the tire was made in the 44th month in the year 2008

  6. Jfeel says:

Love it in the Hotchkis video where the guy is texing himself right into the shot, then runs off.
    About the 4 minute mark.
Hopefully they don’t have underground bays at the shop.
Everyone knows that a manufacturing facility is the only safe place to walk around blind.

Listened to the extensive Mclaren segment on the podcast. Wanted to see the video about their new offering. Was disappointed to see only 30 sec. of the interview on the Pebble Beach video. Where’s the rest?

    • CarCast says:

We have it, needs some additional editing, and if it’s something you want up It can be done. Will be a bit before we get to it all falls on Jeff who will get to it when he can.

Hey Sandy, great job on the tire segment! I will be out in the garage checking out my tires tomorrow morning! Bought a ’07 BMW Z4M in June and I’m kind of curious to see what the tires are rated.

I’m very interested in the Pebble Beach event … is it open to the general public? I live in CT but sounds like it would be worth the trip out west to check it out. Are the tickets sold online or at the entrance?

FYI, I never make a run to the Advance Auto Parts store without wearing my CARCAST hat!
        Love the podcast!

I think the PB and related events can all be purchased on line. I think they may sell out some of the events early as well as the hotel rooms (Which usually double up on prices). It’s a great event an worth the trip at least one time since their are so many things going on besides the car show including the races and auctions.

Thanks for spreading the CarCast word too!

          Sandy
