Bernard Juchli of Jay Leno’s Garage

Jay Leno’s master mechanic Bernard Juchli is this week’s guest on CarCast. Adam Carolla and Matt D’Andria talk with the man behind all of the restorations and maintenance at Jay Leno’s famous Big Dog garage.

Juchli was an aircraft mechanic who later owned and managed a Jaguar maintenance business for 20 years. He’s also a top amateur and vintage race driver. We also talk about his 1961 Flxible [sic] Starliner bus, which he uses as his tow vehicle.

Stay tuned next week for the Laguna Seca recap!

    Awesome pod!

Would love more Leno related stuff, do a garage tour or another Jay episode!

    Bernard is Awesome.

I Always thought that the Swiss accent sounded like an even more civilized, yet laid back version of German.

  3. donuts says:

Bernard is awesome. Too much precious time wasted talking about Jay’s schedule and size of collection – not enough time delving into Bernard’s bio and personal interests in cars.

  4. Mike says:

I was hoping you’d have Bernard on the show one day, enjoyable and entertaining episode.

Matt you’re doing a good job keep Adam in line.

  5. There is an amount of time required to learn the skills of turning a wrench. Then there are guys lie Bernard who have an innate talent and can turn a wrench on just about anyrhing out there. Those are the guys I look up to and try to learn as much from.
    Definitely some good pod here!

  6. Jeff Valliere says:

I have to agree with Hyper Vigilance Guy…More about Bernard please..
He is one intelligent guy ! He sounds like a mechanical genius !
What bikes does he own? What autos does he own?
When & where does his race ?
    And…Is he married? =0)

Yet another great podcast guys! As an aircraft mechanic myself, I have to agree with Bernard about the money. Or lack thereof. I mean you can’t just pull over if something goes wrong at 30k ft.

By the way, Adam, next time you make it to Leno’s house, please sneak into his closet and count the number of denim shirts that he owns.

hey carcast i always listen to the show and this weeks episode when you asked how many sick days bernard would have if he had worked at the post office for 11 years. well guess where i work, the post office. did some quick math and it turns bernard would have just shy of 200 sick days accumulated. keep the shows coming they keep me on the good side of sane while at work.

  12. Austen says:

    Fantastic interview!!!

So cool to learn more about Bernard and also some of the ‘insider stuff’ of what goes on in Jay’s Garage as well.

  13. Dennis Rovetto says:

I have a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am HO400 with 4-spd. They only made 3,196 TA’s in 1970 and only 600 of those were the HO400’s. I want to sell it to Jay so it can be restored properly as I do not have the means to do so. It is a very nice car and has never had rust or a dent. I think only Jay’s guys and his shop could do this beauty justice and put it back completely original (which will not take too much) as it is pretty nice as is.
How do I contact his shop to see if they are interested?

  14. Bill Harrison says:

Do you know who bought the Whittell 1931 Duesenberg J coupe in the 2011, Gooding auction? That was my dad’s car. I have photos of it in our back yard in Illinois and stories about it. He bought it from a dealer in California for, I think, $13,000 and sold it to a collector for a museum in Indiana.
