I love it, Adams’ most powerful vehicle is American made, and it has pushrods and leafsprings. Its also probably his least expensive vehicle. Wouldn’t it be great if the dually became his daily driver.

  2. Von says:

The Jap stuff is for fun but the American stuff is ALL BUSINESS. Love to see Gale on the show and American ingenuity in action!

  3. Charles says:

The truck got picked up used at a real bargain. Apart from the bed being kinda banged up from not having a liner in it and the previous owner smoking in it the thing was clean. The only problem it has had was the t clamp on the turbo failed (defect from ford) on the grapevine coming back from Laguna seca. One day the epic tale of Rob and Les will be told for that, but not today. That is Actually a follow up story of the missing key saga of the same race. In the end, the valet did it!

  4. Chris from Lakeland, FL says:

Not a good daily driver. Parking is a bitch and forget going through the drive thru.

  5. Tim says:

I was excited today when I saw that Gale Banks was on the show again! Seriously I could listen to Gale talk about engines and in particular diesels all day long. Just wish he would do more with the passenger diesel stuff!

  6. mnoswad1 says:

Good to finally see the race rig. looks pretty good. I like the low street towing look. Lets see the whole set up next time…trailer tour, race gear and equipment, etc.

Banks is an awesome guy. Video tour of his house?

  7. DerekR says:

Why does Adam’s hat still have a sticker on the bill?

  8. Lew in Chicago says:

GREAT EPISODE! Neat stuff from Banks.

Guys, look up Burt Rutan (in Mojave) who is the “Gale Banks” of aviation. He’s a “retired” aeronautical engineer, but if he’s willing, he would be an awesome interview….maybe better for the Adam Carolla Show

  9. We need to preserve that brain of Gale’s. Maybe in pickle juice, or formaldehyde. One of those. Not sure which.

Seriously though, this guy knows a crapload about engine performance. I really appreciate his interest in performance, while getting the most bang per gallon at the same time. I know Ace digs that too.

    Love the show as always!

  10. Brad says:

Best guest in the show’s history. Enlightening every time.

  11. Fraser says:

I am sure there is alot of nationalistic pride with this diesel tuning by Banks, I am not disputing what he has done with the tuning or how far they have taken the 6.6litre V8. For what he is working with I salute him. But this shows just how behind the times the US trucks in terms of getting the most out of the engine itself. As long as you have never seen a turbo diesel from VW/Audi or most European manufacturer over the past 20 years this is great.

    • Chris says:

I’ve worked for VW as a tech for several years and I’d have to disagree at how awesome and advanced they are. When one would come in for problems, I’d have to order 10 broken items. By the time those parts came in and the customer returned, there were 10 more broken parts needed. I’d take a Ford over one of those any day.

  12. TL says:

I 2nd what Brad said; best show/ guest yet!

Also, thanks Aceman for giving Merchant Mariner’s their credit! They deserve and need the recognition for their heroism in WWII and all conflicts since then!

  13. Javier from Woodland,CA says:

Awesome episode! Gale Banks is full of great knowledge and great stories. As always, excellent podcast Aceman!

  14. Dave from Va. says:

Great show! Gale spoke of Jeep developing a deisel Grand Cherokee next year which I find odd as my father who lives in Australia just bought his 2nd CRD Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Keep up the good work Adam and Matt.

    • Dave from Va. says:

I’d like to add some more info about my Dad’s new deisel Jeep. His previous Grand Cherokee had a Mercedes-based deisel and the current (2012) has the Italian sourced Fiat engine Gale mentioned. He loves the new exterior styling and he’s getting more power and better economy than before. Only negative comment is that it sounds a little more deisel-like than the Merc engine.

Who gave Banks a Red Bull before the show?
